Tobin's Was a Gas
Sung to the tune of "Belsen Was a Gas" by The Sex Pistols
"Tobin's was a gas, I heard the other day
in the shallow pool where the pros all play,
Life is good and I'm glad we're all here
Stop blocking my view and go get me a beer......"
Photo: www.theskateboardarchives.com
All obscure reference to the Pistols aside, Tobin's was a WC SK8 event to remember - initially no one was too stoked to see the event redirected to this small venue in Portland after Battleground was rained out, but somehow the WC crew not only made it work but pulled it off in style. The vibe went from bike cops and redneck sherrif's stalking Battleground to the usual Beers, Bowls and BBQ style event that everyone has come to expect and appreciate from a Trifecta event - save that lame cop/kook/corporate crap for somewhere else.......
Tobin's is a kinky, crusty tranny of a BY pool and it rounded out the weekend well after having a huge flow course in LC and some Upland-esque vert/pipe terrain @ Pier Park. The change in terrain resulted in some new faces finishing in the top ranks as those who adapted quickly to the tight tranny killed it while others faded into the late-night glow as the lights came on above the bowl and spectators became 4-5 deep all the way around the pool, turning it into a modern-day gladiator's pit....by 10:00PM it was all over and I had thought we had an upset on our hands with Skreech/Morgan/Manchild all legitimate threats to the top 3 spots, but the judges thought otherwise.....In any case some insane skating went down by all concerned and it was a great way to cap another chapter in one of the best all-around events in skateboarding IMHO......All Hail Choppy and the Trifecta!!
Tobin's Results
1) Benji Galloway 2) Skreech 3) Morgan Burgess 4) Steve Reeves
5) Rune Glifberg 6) Will Powers 7) Taylor Mumma 8) Daniel Cardone

Oregon Trifecta Day 3: Staying Dry @ Battleground
After 10 straight days of dry skies in the Northwest, we finally got rain - unfortunately it coincided with the Trifecta event @ Battleground, WA and shut down the contest just as the pros started their warmup session - there was only one place to stay dry and Packy found it:
Photo: www.earthpatrolmedia.com
Unfortunately the skies never cleared and a repeat of his performance @ Pier Park was not to be - the event was moved back to Dave Tobon's backyard bowl in Portland and lasted late into the night. The results are common knowledge by now but will be in next Trifecta post (hard to post anything when you've been on the road for 19 days straight and counting) so stay tuned.
Thanks to Earth Patrol Media for the photo - for more coverage of Oregon in general and Trifecta in particular, check out these great sites:

Packy takes 5th place @ Pier Park Trifecta contest
Photo:Kilwag
Photo: Runaway
The Pack Attack is back! After being parkless for an entire year while attending Virginia Tech, Packy spent the summer skating his way from California to Oregon and into 5th place at yesterday's Trifecta event @ Pier Park in Portland. After surviving two shooting incidents at VT I guess facing the likes of Benji Galloway, Sergie Ventura and Rune Gilfberg can't be that bad.....
Rune, Sergie and Benji showed why they are permanently pre-qualified for the finals, walking away with the top three spots, leaving a 540-throwing Morgan Burgess in fourth and the Pac-Man in 5th ("5th is the new 2nd", as we like to put it.....).
Stay tuned for more coverage from today's event @ Battleground, WA and a photo gallery soon as we can put one together.......

Livin' La Vida IE
Don't know what it is about the IE - we keep finding ourselves out there instead of chillin' in VB where we belong......Packy has taken a liking to Upland's bowl and Aryeh is down for the street course so its a win-win.............

King of Rialto
Um....we probably shoulda' been @ DC King of L.A. or Active's Game of Skate yesterday. That's where all the cool people were - making the scene, buying into the trends and trying to get sponsored by corporate surf conglomerates disguised as skate companies (fun!?). Instead, we left the cool climate of West Los Angeles and headed to Rialto (huh? I didn't know where it was 'til yesterday either) for Pharmacy's "RX Games". Pharmacy's Vegas crew made the drive out and came up lucky on this 777 Saturday, skating off with all top three spots. The locals got some too, with Fontana's very own Caveman walking off with best trick for his kickflip back 50 down the eight stair rail, which dealt out some serious punishment in the form of rolled ankles, swellbows and hippers to most of those in attendance. Our own LV ripper Donny Parke was busting moves like this FS salad grind but was havin' some trouble shaking off the prior night's activites and had to settle for third.
The cops had perfect timing, showing up after the contest was over and running everyone off the premises. We headed back to VB and posted up @ the Daily Pint just as the sun sank behind the Pacific, downing draft Leffe's and discussing our newfound appreciation for the marine layer. I'll take that in lieu of New Era caps with the sticker (and tag) still on and T shirts that fit like dresses any day (I'm sorry - what did you say? I was listening to my i-Pod.....)
Pharmacy Rx Games - Fontana 7/7/07
1) David Bow
Best trick: "Caveman" (Kickflip back fifty)
