Malibu's Most Wanted

Lance, tipping over into the channel PH: RUNAWAY

As Jamie Kennedy would say; "Don't Be Hatin'". The simple fact is that location, climate, inspiration, (and cash) have resulted in SoCal having more private pools per capita than anywhere in the world - it just is what it is. Even so, within the relatively rareified air of private pool properties there exists a pecking order. Situated somewhere between the Etnies pool and yet another private pool, there was rumoured to be a new candidate for the #1 spot; a near-perfect replica of Skate City's clover pool. The other day I got the text I had been waiting for; "Going out to Malibu - meet me there".....I called Big Al, fired up the '83 Veggie MBZ and headed for the coast.....
You ever heard that saying, "If it's too good to be true, it probably is?" Don't believe it. Somewhere between patience, perseverance, hard work, great timing, and a pinch of good luck there lies the promised land, and it looks a lot like this:

PH: RUNAWAY
We skated late into the day, enjoying the killer concrete, good friends, and gracious hospitality of our host, Angelo.

Angelo, FS grind PH: RUNAWAY
Big Al aired the channel, drank a "Fresca" courtesy of Angelo, and went out to the car for a smoke. On the way back home he told me it was the best day of his life.
File this one under: Living The (California) Dream....

Lance Mountain vs. The Ice Cream Man

Contests are so....1980's. We passed on the WCSK8 (isn't that ASPO spelled backwards?) event in SJ this weekend and opted to go to Lance's place instead. When we showed up, Lance informed us that he was so bored earlier in the day that he ate a whole pint of ice cream and was afraid he might "tip over" if he rode. We sat on the deck for a while talking about all things skate; contests (a necessary evil), shallow end trannies (Lance's is "fake" as he puts it), and why Neil Blender was the greatest skater of all time (fastplants are just one reason). Lance dropped in and instead of tipping over he fired off a fastplant. Big Al (all of 19 years old) was awestruck - never seen one before. Lance broke it down for him and 5 minutes later he had 'em wired. Then Lance went full-Neil-mode and made a fast plant to fakie. Big Al? Well, let's just say "Lance: 2, Big Al: 1" .....sometimes you eat the ice cream, sometimes the ice cream eats you......

Space Junk

A dead satellite (UARS) is hurtling toward earth and will rain down in North America tonight or tomorrow - there is a 1 in 2300 chance someone will get hit by debris as large as 300 pounds. If you are anywhere near Big Al when he blasts a stale fish, your odds of getting hit by space junk are more like 1 in 10. Good thing for me he held on to this one......I am hoping the UARS hits the Santa Clarita park tomorrow at peak traffic hours and takes out a couple hundred kids on razors.....seriously.
